Peer Review Process
All manuscripts submitted to JIRAN: Journal of Southeast Asia Studies undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of the content.
1. Initial Editorial Screening
Upon submission, each manuscript is reviewed by the editorial team to determine:
-
Relevance to the journal's scope
-
Compliance with submission guidelines
-
Originality and academic merit
-
Absence of plagiarism
Manuscripts that do not meet these basic requirements may be returned to the author without review.
2. Double-Blind Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to at least two independent reviewers. The double-blind process ensures that:
-
Reviewers do not know the identity of the author(s)
-
Authors do not know the identity of the reviewers
Reviewers are selected based on their expertise in the subject area of the manuscript.
3. Review Criteria
Reviewers are asked to evaluate the manuscript based on:
-
Originality and contribution to knowledge
-
Clarity of objectives and arguments
-
Soundness of methodology
-
Relevance and accuracy of references
-
Structure, style, and language quality
-
Significance of findings
4. Review Outcomes
Based on the reviewers' reports, the editorial decision may be:
-
Accept without revision
-
Accept with minor revisions
-
Revise and resubmit (major revisions)
-
Reject
Authors will receive detailed feedback and are expected to revise their manuscript accordingly. Revised submissions may be re-reviewed at the discretion of the editorial team.
5. Timeframe
The typical time from submission to initial decision is 4 to 6 weeks, and the overall publication process (from submission to publication) may take up to 3 months, depending on the nature of revisions.
6. Confidentiality
All aspects of the peer review process are treated with strict confidentiality. Reviewers must not use or share any part of the manuscript for personal or professional gain.
7. Appeals
If an author disagrees with the editorial decision, they may submit a written appeal with clear justifications. The editorial board will review the appeal and make a final decision.
